The Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer Features
The Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer has so many fantastic features, from ample cargo space to room for 2 kids, and so much more! I’ll give you a breakdown of all the things I love about this double Burley, and who it is best suited for.
A Double Burley Bike Trailer For Toddlers
First and foremost, having 6 young kids means that a DOUBLE bike trailer was a must when I was searching for the perfect bike trailer for toddlers. I’m always out-and-about with multiple kiddos, whether I’m with my girls taking my toddler to morning summer camp and bringing my 17 month old along for the ride, or taking my young boys on a quick bike ride to the beach.
If you have 2 or more kids, or you’re even thinking about having another baby in the future, it’s well worth it to go with a double bike trailer. A kids bike trailer with two seats allows you the flexibility to have either one child OR two children seated together.
The Burley Honey Bee bike trailer is a 2 seater bike trailer that can comfortably sit two toddlers (or young kids) next to each other. My 3.5 year old daughter is always next to my 17 month old daughter and they fit very comfortably.
(Adorable light pink helmets linked HERE!)
I’ve had my 7 and 5 year old boys also ride in the Honey Bee trailer and they’re snug, but still comfortable enough where they don’t mind the tighter space. The weight limit of the Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer is 100 pounds (which is higher than most!).
I love a good kid product that can span from baby-kid years, and this double Burley bike trailer is one of those wins!
A Double Bike Trailer Stroller
Not only is the Burley Honey Bee a fantastic double bike trailer, it’s also a double bike stroller! That’s right, the Burley Honey Bee can be a bike trailer and stroller all in one, by easily adding/removing a front wheel where it would normally be attached to the adult bike. You can keep the stroller wheel on, swing it up to the side, and then put it in place when you’re ready to use it as a stroller. The stroller kit is so easy to adjust, so it’s not a big process if you want to go from bike trailer to stroller back to bike trailer, etc.
A double stroller bike trailer is such a great option if you want the flexibility and maneuverability of a walking stroller when you’re out-and-about on your bike. (Plus, the ergonomic handlebars are height adjustable!).
For example, let’s say you want to bike to a nearby town, and once you get there you’d like to explore the town, head to a park, and walk to lunch. This is the perfect scenario to bring the stroller kit with, pop the Honey Bee trailer off the bike, pop up the bike trailer stroller wheel, and ta-da! You have yourself a convenient walking stroller.
Another scenario would be if you’re going on a road trip with the kids, there is limited storage space in your car for bags/suitcases, and all of your gear, but you’d love to bring your bike and the a kids bike trailer with to go on some nice bike trails while on vacation. There most likely isn’t room for a bike trailer and a separate double stroller, but one that can function as both? Perfect!
Which leads me to the best part…
A Foldable Bike Trailer
The Honey Bee Burley bike trailer FOLDS! YES! Back in the good ol’ days when I had my first two kids (back in 2013 and 2015), bike trailers didn’t fold. They were bulky (although still awesome and high quality), so they took up a lot of space in the garage, bike room, and especially if you were to travel.
The Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer is a FOLDING bike trailer, and let me tell you, it’s amazing in that regard alone. Again, as a mom of 6 kids, I’m a sucker for anything that has a “compact fold” or is labeled “easy to fold“, and this double bike trailer for toddlers follows through.
It’s so convenient to be able to store the compact bike trailer off to the side of the garage in the off season, and it barely takes up any space. And it’s PERFECT for taking it on a road trip and squeezing it into the trunk of the minivan, while still being able to fit all of our travel gear and essentials.
Compact fold + easy storage = mom’s dream.
Like the scenario I mentioned previously, it really is a great option when you don’t want to lug your big double stroller on a road trip, but you still need to use a double stroller- this folds flat, serves it’s purpose of being a double bike trailer for toddlers and a double bike trailer stroller, and saves so much space! (Plus, it has great cargo space!)
A Bike Trailer With Cargo Space
Okay, again, as a mom of 6 kids I need all the cargo space I can get! From backpacks, to lunch bags, to basketballs and footballs, to helmets, to water bottles, you get the idea. So having a bike trailer with cargo space was a MUST for me. And the Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer has great cargo space!
I can easily fit 2 filled backpacks alongside extras like balls, water bottles, towels, etc. If you have 1 or 2 older kids biking alongside you on their own bikes, you can also squeeze in 4 backpacks stacked in a row. The ample bike trailer cargo space is such a non-negotiable once you have kids, and you quickly learn as they grow that they like to bring more “stuff” along for the ride.
Plus, the Honey Bee has a cargo storage cover to protect all of your items from the rain or direct sunlight.
Safety First! A Five Point Harness Bike Trailer
We all think of helmets as the main safety feature when riding a bike, however, when your kids are in a bike trailer, you want to make sure the bike trailer has the proper safety features to keep them safe (in addition to wearing their helmets, of course).
One of the safest features of a bike trailer is having a five point harness, and the Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer has 2! Just like an infant or toddler car seat, a five point harness protects them from a crash by securing the entire upper body, with straps down the shoulders, in front of the chest, and across the lap to meet in the middle. This not only keeps kids safe, but it also prevents squirmy babies from trying to escape!
Not only does the Burley bike trailer have 2 five point harnesses (one for each passenger), it also has a lap belt that can be buckled across one or both children. All of which are a one click unbuckle, super convenient when you’re holding a baby/bags/waterbottle and need a quick way to get the little ones out of the Burley.
In addition to the five point harness and lap belts, the solid construction and design of the Honey Bee Bike Trailer (which never feels like it could flip on a turn!), makes it one of the safest bike trailers on the market.
Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer “Extras”
From being made from chemically-safe post-consumer recycled fabric (made from recycled water bottles!), to mesh water bottle holders/pockets on each side, to adjustable handlebars, to side windows for easy viewing, to a mesh cover and rain cover for riders, to light reflectors, these “extras” really make the Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer a top pick for any parent looking for a quality bike trailer for kids.
Cons / Things to consider
I honestly haven’t found any real “cons”, but I wish the seats were a bit more padded. My kids haven’t complained, but I think some seat pad cushion could be nice. They DO sell a separate seat pad, but they cost about $60, so if you’re buying 2, you’re up to $120 on seat pads in addition to the cost of the bike trailer. Which leads me to my next “con”… price.
The Honey Bee costs about $479, which isn’t cheap. It’s not the cheapest double bike trailer on the market, neither is it the most expensive, but it’s still a bigger purchase.
(Note: If it’s out of budget, I often see them listed on Facebook Marketplace for much cheaper, but there are obviously cons to getting one used. I still vote to take the splurge if you’re on the fence!)
Is The Burley Honey Bee Bike Trailer Worth It?
Do I think it’s worth it? 100%. If you’re going to be using your bike trailer often with your child/children, then you’re going to want something safe, high-quality, spacious, durable, easy to ride, and enjoyable, and the Honey Bee Bike Trailer is ALL of those things and more.
I KNOW you and your kids will LOVE it as much as we do!
