When a new baby is about to join the family, it’s always a great idea to give your older children a special gift from the baby! In this post, you’ll find cute new sibling gift ideas for the big brother and big sister in the family- Love, Baby.
As we’re about to welcome baby #6, we will have made our children big siblings 5 times now. And I can surely say that giving a “big sibling gift” from the baby is a wonderful way to make your children feel special, included, and extra lovey-dovey toward that new bundle of joy. Welcoming a new baby is definitely a big transition for any older sibling, so what better way to start that new chapter than a special “big sister gift” or “big brother gift”.
A new sibling gift does not need to be expensive or elaborate, but it should be something that keeps the big siblings busy and mayyyybe makes your life a little easier during the newborn stage. If your other children love their big sibling gift, AND it preoccupies them while you care for your new baby, then that is a WIN.
Here is my list of new sibling gift ideas from baby:

Big Sibling Gift Ideas
Camera
I love the idea of giving a camera to an older sibling! They make so many cameras now suitable for different ages that a toddler could have their own, and a big kid could have a better quality one. Either way, a camera is a great big sibling gift idea because they’ll be sure to take lots of pictures of the baby, pictures of baby and big brother/big sister together (bonding= yay!), and go venture taking photos solo (quiet time= yay!). Just look out for the snapshots they’re sure to get of you exhausted, delirious, makeup-less, and probably covered in breastmilk stains.
Toy Truck
Sweet and simple, a toy truck can entertain a toddler boy for hours. We gave this recycling truck as a big brother gift when we first brought home our second baby, and as an 18 month old he loved it. These have been a few of our 3 boys’ favorites over the years:
Baby Doll
Also sweet and simple, a baby doll is a great choice for a big sister gift so she gets to care for her own baby and practice her big sister skills!
Baby Doll Accessories
And don’t forget the baby doll accessories! A baby doll stroller, baby carrier, or bassinet will help our new big sibling practice caring for their new baby brother or sister.
Walkie Talkies
A great big sibling gift idea if you have multiple children already is a set of walkie talkies! My kids love to take their walkie talkies and talk to each other while playing hide and seek, running around the backyard, or at the playground. Some walkie talkies come with built in flashlights which the kids love and use all the time when they’re exploring or “camping out” in a fort or teepee.
Play Tent / Teepee
For some of the best imaginative play, our kids always love playing in a play tent or teepee. There are so many cute options available that come in different sizes- from a small teepee for one big sibling, to larger play tents that will fit multiple older siblings. A play tent or teepee is a wonderful new sibling gift idea!
Stuffed Animal
If you want to keep your new sibling gift very sweet and simple, a stuffed animal is the perfect addition to a toddler’s toy collection. Comforting, soft, sweet, and will help the transition as baby comes along. These have been some of my kids favorite stuffed animals over the years:
Magnetic tiles
Any good-quality magnetic tile will keep our kids busy for a while in our house- which is what you want for the older siblings when you’re caring for a newborn! Magna-tiles can get pricey, but we have some magnetic tile sets that work just as well but cost less:
Legos
And if your kids are responsible enough to not whip a lego set across the floor and scatter hundreds of lego pieces for you to clean up, then a Lego set is a great sibling gift idea! Legos will keep big siblings occupied, and encourage teamwork if one set is going to multiple big siblings to share.
Lego Duplos
And Lego Duplos for the younger big sibling crowd! The perfect toddler big sibling gift for any big brother or big sister that loves to build.
Bounce House
One of the best big sibling gift ideas ever is an awesome bounce house! A bounce house can be used indoors (if you have room!) or outdoors, and it is a perfect way for the older siblings to get their energy out. It is a shared sibling gift that no one will mind sharing!
Shark Water Slide
If you’re having a summer baby and you want the kids to get out of the house and into the backyard, this shark water slide has been the best outdoor purchase for our kids for backyard summer fun.
Bath Toys
If you’re having a winter baby, and you have young toddlers in the house as new siblings, sometimes you just need the little ones to be more “contained” vs running wild through the house. Bath time is a great way to keep those little ones occupied, especially during a nursing session in the bathroom (been there, done that, too many times to count). New bath toys are a sweet and simple toddler big sibling gift.
No-Mess Art gifts
For the toddler big siblings, no-mess art is a fantastic way to keep those little ones busy, creative, but not messy.
Play-Doh or Clay
If the new siblings in your house can play with play-doh and keep it contained (so it’s not found smashed into your piano keys or your new rug or the dog’s bowl), then a play-doh or clay kit is another new sibling gift idea that keeps kids busy, creative, and working together if there are multiple big siblings. My older 3 kids will build an entire set of farm animals out of clay together, however my younger ones are still in the “you put the play-doh where?!” stage.
Indoor Sports Gifts
Again, anything that keeps the kids active, occupied, and less stir-crazy (especially if you’re having a winter baby) is a plus. A fun indoor sports gift is a great idea for a big sister or big brother gift!
After welcoming so many new babies into our family, I can guarantee a big brother gift, big sister gift, or a shared big sibling gift helps the transition when baby arrives! These have been some of our kids’ favorite big sibling gifts. In addition to a “fun” gift, I also think it’s helpful to get a couple books about becoming a new sibling to gift before baby arrives.
