High End Wallpaper Vs Less Expensive Options
Traditional style interior designers swoon over wallpaper selections from each of these high end and luxury wallpaper brands because:
1) they’re stunning
and
2) they’re such high quality
However, nowadays, you can truly find wallpaper for every budget- from inexpensive peel and stick wallpaper that comes with a great price, to the highest quality designer wallpaper brand wall coverings that can cost quite a bit! (Those rolls of wallpaper really add up!). And a wide range in between.
But is it worth it to go with one of these luxury brands of wallpaper? Again, if budget allows, then a big YES!
Or, if you’re on a budget, but choose to wallpaper a smaller room such as a powder room, then I absolutely think these brands are worth it- there’s a reason their wallpapers are consistently best sellers!
These high end wallpaper brands use high-quality materials and traditional techniques to print intricate designs that can stand the test of time. While some of these brands have options for more modern wallpaper designs, they really shine in their wide array of traditional wallpaper prints that are truly timeless.
(In fact, some wallpaper prints have been inspired from beautiful designs from as far back as the 16th century!). And some designs still have that classic feel with a slight modern twist.
From Schumacher, to Cole & Son, to Colefax & Fowler, these luxury wallpaper brands have the most breath-taking designs and the quality to back the brand.
What Are The Best Rooms To Wallpaper?
Technically, you can wallpaper nearly every room in your home. But, if you’re looking to start out with an interior space to wallpaper the entire room, then these are a few I would suggest considering:
- Powder Room – The powder room is the ideal room to wallpaper. Since powder rooms are smaller in size, and lack the humidity that comes from a bathroom with a bathtub or shower, they are the perfect room to “test out” a wallpaper without having to worry so much about coordinating surrounding furniture, etc. Powder rooms can even handle bolder designs such as bold animal prints, or designs that might not suit a larger space as well, such as a bedroom or dining room.
- Dining Room – The dining room is one of the most popular and traditional spaces for wallpaper. From botanical motifs to vibrant colors, the dining room has the flexibility to take on various interior design styles, and really feels like its own intimate space- that’s what family meals and gatherings are all about! This traditional space has been wallpapered since the Victorian period where it was common place to showcase high end English luxury wallpaper in dining rooms and reception rooms.
- Entryway / Foyer – An entryway or foyer is also a great area of the home to wallpaper, especially if you have a smaller space. A wallpapered entryway can really give personality to your home and set the tone for your space. Since wallpaper can really “cozy up” an interior space, the entryway to your home is an ideal spot to have a warm and welcoming design touch.
- Bedroom – The bedroom is another popular room for wallpaper, and is often the choice for gorgeous neutral wallpaper, to leave flexibility for furniture and bedding patterns.
- Living Room – If you have a smaller, more intimate living room space, then don’t shy away from trying wallpaper here. Although the dining room tends to be a more popular choice for wallpaper, you can really bring warmth and character to your living room walls by adding wallpaper.
- Laundry Room – A laundry room is also a fun room to try out a wallpaper that’s on your wish list, as it feels like less of a “big decision” than a more primary space like a dining room or entryway.
- Girl’s Bedroom, Boy’s Bedroom, Nursery – One of my favorite rooms to add wallpaper is a child’s bedroom or baby’s nursery. It’s a perfect interior space to add a bit of color, pattern, character, and personality. From a classic stripe wallpaper in a boy’s bedroom, to a dainty floral wallpaper in a girl’s bedroom, the options are endless to create a beautiful wallpapered bedroom space for the littles.
As I mentioned before, once you wallpaper one room, you’ll want to wallpaper so many more! So try out different areas of your home: the mudroom, a home office or study, or even the inside of closets.
The Best High End Wallpaper Brands
Whether you’re looking for floral wallpaper, delicate patterns, or original patterns in different color pathways, these luxury wallpaper brands are top of the line when it comes to wall coverings. From quality, print, and design, these high end wallpaper brands are tried and true:
Schumacher
You truly can’t talk about luxury wallpaper brands without Schumacher coming to mind. Schumacher has the largest number of “well-known” wallpaper designs- from Acanthus Stripe, to Twiggy, to Cloud Toile, to Hydrangea Stripe, to Chenonceau, and SO many more. If you want to find the perfect classic wallpaper print for your home, I can guarantee you’ll find one from the Schumacher wallpaper collection.
Brunschwig & Fils
Brunschwig & Fils was founded in France in 1880, and has evolved into one of the world’s most prestigious sources for beautiful wallcoverings. Bird and Thistle is an iconic (and gorgeous) Brunschwig and Fils print.
Thibaut
Thibaut is a luxury wallpaper brand that truly has everything- pops of color, classic floral prints, whimsical birds and butterflies, to more modern designs. Founded in 1886, it is the oldest wallcovering company in the United States.
Cole & Son
Cole & Son was founded in London in 1875, and has a wide range of wallpaper styles, from the classic Sweet Pea print (a personal favorite) to more modern designs as well. Designer Shea McGee even used the gorgeous and neutral Florencecourt wallpaper print for her daughter’s nursery, and it’s beautiful!
Sandberg
Sandberg is a Swedish wallpaper brand that has one of the most-loved wallpaper designs: Raphael, boasting sprawling treetops inspired by antique tapestries. It’s stunning!
Lee Jofa
Lee Jofa was founded in 1823 and is still a top choice for wallcoverings that embrace that refined English design.
Morris & Co
William Morris founded Morris & Co in 1861, and it has been one of the most well-known luxury wallpaper brands ever since. One of the most popular Morris & Co wallpaper designs is “Pimpernel” , which he designed in 1876 and actually chose this wallpaper print for his dining room at Kelmscott House in Hammersmith London. Morris & Co has recently done a collaboration with McGee & Co, where you can find beautiful color pathways for some of the classics by Morris & Co.
Colefax & Fowler
Colefax and Fowler have some of the most classically timeless designs from the ever-praised Bowood botanical print (which is also a fan favorite in fabric for pillows and headboards, etc), to other gorgeous floral prints such as Chantilly or versatile leafy trellis patterns such as Leafberry.
Scalamandré
The House of Scalamandré offers such a diverse array of luxury wallpaper prints from Leaping Cheetahs to the intricately detailed Balinese Peacock, a crowd favorite!
GP & J Baker
GP & J Baker have the most beautiful adaptations of archival Chinoiserie patterns such as their Eltham and Summer Peony wallpaper prints. If you’re looking for a gorgeous floral print or a chinoiserie pattern featuring birds, branches and flowers, these are a few favorites:
Sanderson
Sanderson has some of the most beautiful neutral, soft, and muted wallpaper prints such as Annandale and Waterperry. A fan favorite has been Summer Harvest that boasts touches of pink and green in a soft botanical print, which Julia Berolzheimer chose for her daughter’s nursery.
De Gournay
While NOT for those on a tight budget, De Gournay offers the most luxurious hand-painted wallpaper designs such as chinoiserie patterns that resemble luxurious gardens from the 17th and 18th centuries. One of the most well-known luxury wallpaper brands, De Gournay’s status of elegant artistry can’t be beat.
Farrow & Ball
Although highly regarded and most well-known for their high quality paint (I’m a HUGE fan of Farrow and Ball paint!), Farrow and Ball also sports high end wallpaper. From their classic closet stripe wallpaper to their stunning floral and trellis wallpaper patterns, Farrow and Ball has a large selection of gorgeous wallcoverings.
Sister Parish
Sister Parish is a crowd favorite for interior designers who lean toward a classic, preppy, or grandmillennial style such as Ariel Okin or Sarah Bartholomew Designs. From their bright and cheery patterns and colors, with a touch of nostalgia and whimsy, Sister Parish is a high end wallpaper brand that is perfect for a home that embraces cheerful wallpaper designs!
Serena And Lily
From their classic coastal blues to their iconic Priano wallpaper, Serena and Lily is a high end wallpaper brand whose wallpaper is on par with their stunning home decor and furniture. Although “newer” vs the older classic luxury wallpaper brands, their wallpaper is such high quality and always loved by many. Playful finds from both fresh coastal patterns to classic timeless neutrals and florals.
Meg Braff Designs
I’m a big fan of Meg Braff Designs wallpaper. This is a high end wallpaper brand that you may or may not have heard of, as it is “newer” vs the old classics by Schumacher, Thibaut, etc. but wow does Meg and her team have the most gorgeous classic-meets-palm-beach-style wallpaper that would make any room in the home feel bright and cheery.
I’d love to know your favorites!
Happy wallpaper shopping!
