If you’re looking for timeless tile on a budget, Floor And Decor tile is the way to go!
As much as we may be drawn to some high-end tile boutiques where they feature hand-painted tiles that take somewhere between 8-10 weeks to ship to you and cost a fortune, reality sets in when you’re starting home renovations and you want beautiful tiles that are in stock and within budget. This is where Floor And Decor tile is a great option!
When starting to plan for our kitchen and bathroom renovations, I knew I wanted a timeless tile design- a beautiful Carrara marble, a white zellige tile or something with a similar handmade texture, etc. Both projects were on a time-crunch and had to be taken care of quickly, and also kept within budget. I didn’t have time to risk shipping delays, broken tile pieces, or any surprises, so I needed to find somewhere I could go with tile that was in stock and ready to rock. Our contractor (a family friend, who actually builds multimillion dollar homes on the North Shore of Chicago) suggested Floor and Decor out of all places, as that’s where they often have luck in finding simple, classic, and timeless tile. So I ventured to Floor and Decor to scope out my favorites!
Floor And Decor Tile: Pros And Cons
Pros:
- Huge selection of tile
- Majority of tile is in stock
- Tile is displayed nicely (much better than our local Home Depot or Lowes)
- Good for finding tile on a budget
- Plenty of tile samples to take home
- Because there are so many boxes of tile in stock and on display, you can take the time and effort to find tile that’s more cohesive if you don’t want much variation (for example: you can find marble tile that leans lighter gray or darker gray depending on your preference, and pick your favorite pieces… vs. if you were to buy boxes of tile online you “get what you get” and there may be too much variation for your liking)
Cons:
- The huge selection can be overwhelming- a mix of “so-so” tiles on display can deter you from finding the beautiful, classic tiles
- The store doesn’t “feel” like you’re shopping for high-end tile, it almost feels like you’re shopping at a Costco dedicated to tile and flooring… again, don’t let the “warehouse vibe” deter you
The Best Timeless Tile From Floor And Decor
Artisan Frost Ceramic Tile
This simple and beautiful white ceramic tile from Spain has a subtle texture that helps it lean toward the handmade/zellige tile look. I’ve used this tile in 2 projects and it creates a stunning white subway tile wall when paired with a white grout such as Mapei Avalanche. The 3 x 12 size is so pretty and the tumbled edges really make the tile look handmade when the edges are exposed. Because the Artisan Frost Ceramic Tile is water resistant, it’s perfect for shower walls. We have this tile as a backsplash wall behind out stove, and we do A LOT of cooking, and it has held up great- I love how easy it is to clean and maintain. At $0.99 per 3 x 12 piece, it is a perfect classic white subway tile to use if you’re on a budget but still want a timeless and elevated look.
Black Natural Slate Tile
If you love the look of slate and its natural veining, then this 3 x 9 slate tile is worth checking out. It’s currently listed at $1.19 a piece. I love the look of slate floors, and given its size, this would look beautiful laid in a brick, thirds, or herringbone layout. There’s something so “grounding” about slate floors and I love it’s classic appeal. This slate tile is water resistant when sealed properly and is a beautiful choice for incorporating natural stone elements into your interior home design.
(Keep scrolling to see more pictures of this slate tile paired with marble to see the contrast).
CARRARA CHATEAU HONED MARBLE TILE
This beautiful Carrara honed marble tile is currently listed at only $1.09 a piece per 3 x 6 tile. A honed Carrara marble tile is a classic and timeless tile that is perfect for a shower wall or backsplash (be sure to get them properly sealed!). Carrara marble comes in different variations of white and gray veining and background color, so it’s worth sifting and picking your pieces/boxes when you venture to Floor and Decor. The samples I have here have little veining and lean more toward a white marble background.
You can see how gorgeous both the Carrara honed marble tile and natural slate tile look together in this picture below:
BIANCO CARRARA HONED MARBLE TILE
Gorgeoussss! I love a classic Bianco Carrara honed marble tile. If you’re looking for a timeless tile option, a Bianco Carrara honed marble is a great choice. I love a Carrara honed marble for a timeless bathroom design. I love the large 6 x 12 tile pieces for this specific marble, but it also comes in a variety of sizes (and shapes) as well. Here is an option for 3 x 9 Bianco Carrara honed marble. This marble tile comes from Italy, is water resistant when properly sealed, and has a beautiful gray veining. Again, due to veining and background color variation and intensity, it helps to sift through boxes in the store if you’re looking for a more homogenous look.
In the image below, you can see how beautiful the Bianco Carrara Honed Marble tile (top and bottom of image) and the Carrara Chateau marble tile (right side of image), look against the richer slate tile.
THASSOS BLUE CELESTE BASKET WEAVE MARBLE MOSAIC
I love love love this Thassos Blue Basket Weave Marble Mosaic for a touch of blue mosaic that still feels classic and classy. I think it’s one of the prettiest ways to add a touch of color to a timeless bathroom design. It can be used as bathroom floor tile, shower walls, or shower floors with proper sealing. This stunning polished Thassos Marble comes straight from the quarries of Greece. The beautiful basketweave design feels classic, yet fresh, and can be a great choice for a traditional bathroom or even a coastal bathroom design.
I love this tile so much, that I used it to create a shower niche (well, 3), in our kids bathroom remodel that is currently underway, and I’m SO happy with how it turned out. Here’s a sneak peak:
THASSOS AZUL MACAUBAS BASKET WEAVE MARBLE MOSAIC
Another gorgeous Thassos Marble tile from Floor and Decor that offers a touch of stunning blue is this Thassos Azul Macaubas Basket Weave Marble Mosaic. The blue is a bit deeper in color than the Thassos Celeste, and the traditional “basket weave” is more pronounced. Again, a polished marble, suitable for bathroom floors and shower walls (if properly sealed), and sourced from the quarries of Greece, this Thassos marble is a timeless tile that can be used in a traditional bathroom or coastal bathroom design.
When designing our shower niches, I had such a tough time deciding between the Thassos Celeste Basket Weave Marble Mosaic and the Thassos Azul Macaubas Basket Weave Marble Mosaic- they’re both beautiful!!
Here are a few more favorite classic marble tile mosaics for a timeless bathroom design:
CARRARA CHATEAU HERRINGBONE HONED MARBLE MOSAIC
CARRARA CHATEAU BASKET WEAVE POLISHED MARBLE MOSAIC
CARRARA CHATEAU 1 IN. HEXAGON HONED MARBLE MOSAIC
HARPER THASSOS & BLUE CELESTE AZUL MARBLE MOSAIC
Now the hardest part is narrowing down the tile and picking a favorite!
I hope you found some inspiration for timeless tile ideas on a budget- good luck tile shopping!

HI!! Thanks so much for sharing the bathroom tiles inspo! Im currently remodeling our pool bathroom and have been looking at the thassos blue basket weave tile and stumbled across your blog! Loveeee the niche idea! I just wanted to know which white tile you used in the shower to accompany this tile, and if you still like it! Thanks so much!

Hi Arielle! Thanks so much!! I’m SO happy with both the thassos basket weave as well as the white tile. For the white tile, I actually decided to go with the same ” ARTISAN FROST CERAMIC TILE ” that we used for our kitchen (that I link earlier in the post). I looked at so many different tiles for the bathroom walls, including some that were much more expensive, but ultimately found the Artisan Frost Ceramic Tile to be the best option for how crisp the white color is, how it gives that somewhat handmade appearance, and for how easy it is to clean. I love how that particular white really compliments the thassos tile and lets the blue basketweave have its moment π Very happy with both!! Lmk if you have any other questions and thanks for stopping by!

Hi! Such a gorgeous look! Exactly what I was looking for !! I know you have to seal marble. Is it high maintenance?
What would you use on the floor to complement it?
Amanda says
What did you do for the rest of the bathroom floor ?
Hope And Hedges says
Hi Amanda! You can see our bathroom floor in this post: https://www.hopeandhedges.com/pottery-barn-sausalito-vanity-dupe/ and there is a link in the comments of my specific floor tile

Thanks Julie!! If you’re referring to the marble mosaic niche I have actually found it low maintenance because it’s on the wall (vs. the shelf itself). For the shower niche shelf we used a quartz that looks like marble and I’ve been VERY impressed with the look and low-maintenance of it. You can see what we used on our bathroom floor (and there’s a link to the specific product in the comments) in this post: https://www.hopeandhedges.com/pottery-barn-sausalito-vanity-dupe/
Hope that helps!

Thank you for sharing! I was also on a similar hunt for timeless tile! I often find Floor and Decor a “less than aesthetic” shopping experience but these are great tile options to consider for our timeless/traditional style renovations.

Thanks Sophia! I completely agree with you!! Plus, it’s a bit overwhelming when you enter the store haha. Glad I could help!

Hi! We used the “Artisan Frost” tile linked at the top of the post.
