Who doesn’t love a good Pottery Barn dupe?! For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the Sausalito vanity from Pottery Barn. As we began tackling our kids bathroom remodel, I knew the Sausalito vanity would look great in this space. However, I needed a specific sized bathroom vanity that the Sausalito does not come in, so I had to keep looking for the best Pottery Barn Sausalito Vanity Dupe. Sure enough, I found it!

Kids Bathroom Design: Finding A Sausalito Vanity Dupe
First, let me back up a bit. Other than our teeny-tiny, more like a powder room-sized, super outdated master bathroom, the kids bathroom is our ONLY other upstairs bathroom. Which means 3 boys and 3 girls will have a single bathroom to share for as long as we’re living in this house. (Yikes.)
Because it’s a boys and girls space, I wanted to keep the bathroom design elements a bit more “gender neutral”. I wanted classic and timeless elements, but nothing that leans too feminine in design. The Sausalito vanity fit the bill. The kids bathroom also has a large window with southern exposure that allows enough light in to really make a beautiful wood vanity have its moment!
In order to maximize counter space for our 6 kids, I needed to go with a 42 inch vanity. The Pottery Barn Sausalito vanity currently is only sold in a 20″, 26″, 36″, 46″, 60″ and 61″- darn! And with this many kids, I really can’t sacrifice the counter space and go down to a 36 inch.
I came across the 42″ Annie Vanity from Ari Kitchen and Bath (update: this has been so popular it keeps selling out so there may be a different sized vanity linked!) and thought *maybe* this might fit the bill as a Pottery Barn dupe. I’ll be honest, the pictures online weren’t the best, but I knew I had to see past the bathroom styling, knobs, and faucet that didn’t do the vanity any favors.
I thought that with a timeless polished nickel faucet and softer satin brass knobs, we could give this bathroom vanity a whole new life!
I’ll get into more details when I do a full post about the kids bathroom remodel reveal, but I had to make decisions FAST for this renovation project. One of which was deciding on a vanity that could be delivered within a week or 2. Again, I lucked out with this one.
When looking for a wood vanity that has a “coastal oak” style- lighter wood, not too grey, not too dark, not too orange undertoned, not too bulky, not too white washed, you begin to feel a bit like Goldilocks trying to find that “just right” porridge.
I could’ve gone the “safe route” and just chose a simple white vanity and called it a day. But I had this vision in my head of creating a much lighter, brighter, and airier space for the kids bathroom with timeless white details for the bath tile and walls, and knew a lighter oak-look vanity would create the grounding element I needed for this design.
And given our time crunch, and trying to keep the kids bathroom remodel within budget (because, again, this is the kids space and bound to get some wear and tear over time), a custom oak vanity was not an option for this project.
Ordering a bathroom vanity without seeing it, knowing I didn’t have the timeline for a return, was a tad risky. I took the risk, crossed my fingers, and ordered the Annie bathroom vanity! When our contractor slowly opened the box and I found myself wide eyed with excitement instead of smacking my hand against my forehead- I knew the risk was worth it. Sure enough, I could see the potential of this vanity being a great Pottery Barn dupe- hooray!
Sprucing Up The Sausalito Vanity Dupe / Annie Vanity
Seeing the Annie Vanity in person, I knew that with the right hardware and faucet, it could really pass the test for being a great Pottery Barn look-for-less win! Here is the original vanity, before any design changes (it comes with knobs only, no faucet):
With all of the Black Friday deals going on when I was ordering, I kid you not, I bought 6 bathroom faucets to test out which looked best.
I landed on the Victorian Polished Lever 8 in. Widespread 2-Handle Bathroom Faucet in Polished Nickel by Kingston Brass (also found at Home Depot HERE), and it is BEAUTIFUL.
I love its classic English-inspired design, vintage touch of white on the handles, and the timeless look of the polished nickel. Again, 6 bathroom faucets later, this one was the clear winner! Also, side note, if you have young kids, you know how many times a day you’re holding a toddler (or holding a toddler while holding a baby, etc.) and trying to brush their teeth, wash their hands, get marker off their face, so on and so forth, that a faucet lever that you pull vs. twist makes your life a bit easier. It’s the small things.
I purchased the Kingston Brass Victorian Polished Faucet through Home Depot, however, it’s been sold out often, but has been in stock on Amazon.
For the knobs, I decided to go the mixed metal route, knowing I’d compliment brass knobs with brass sconces or a brass mirror, to give a little variation from the polished nickel faucet. A few interior designers have recommended the Emtek Haydon Cabinet Knob (1-1/4″) in Satin Brass, so I decided to go with those and I’m so glad I did!
They have a lovely soft brass finish and are a great weight and quality. I have bought the popular Rejuvenation brass knobs for different projects, and these are a great alternative at half the cost. (The Emtek Haydon knobs were about $9.60 each whereas the knobs from Rejuvenation are $20+ plus higher shipping fees).
The soft brass looks great against the lighter wood grain of the Annie Vanity.
(I’ve had so many readers reach out to say they’re also SO happy with these brass knobs, so I wrote a post in more detail about our Emtek hardware and other styles I recommend! Read more here: Emtek Cabinet Hardware For Our Bathroom Remodel )
Cost Comparison: Pottery Barn Sausalito Vanity vs. Annie Vanity
Since we needed a 42 inch bathroom vanity, and the Sausalito vanity does not come in that exact size, I can’t give you an exact cost comparison. But looking at the sizes closest to the 42 inch Annie Vanity, this would be the 46 and 36 inch Sausalito vanities. And since there is only a 4″ difference between the 46″ Pottery Barn vanity and the 42″ Ari Kitchen and Bath vanity, let’s compare those two in terms of cost savings:
- 46″ Pottery Barn Sausalito Vanity: $3,299 + $279 (Shipping & Processing) + $223 (tax) = $3,801
- 42″ Ari Kitchen and Bath Annie Vanity: ~$1,150 (depending on where it’s purchased) (+ free shipping + minimal tax)
This cost breakdown shows that the Annie Vanity is MUCH more affordable, being about a third of the cost of the Sausalito. So if you’re looking for a Pottery Barn Sausalito Vanity Dupe that fulfills the “look for less” criteria, this one passes and will save you a hefty couple thousand dollars!
Currently, it looks like the Annie vanity is sold in a 30″, 36″, and 42″.
Pros and Cons of the Annie Vanity (Sausalito Dupe)
- While it’s too early to tell how it’ll hold up, it seems to be a great quality piece!
- I love the “imperfect” details of the wood, like a few random subtle knots, and natural wood grain lines
- The color of the wood fulfills that lighter “coastal oak” vibe
- The Italian carrara marble counter top is beautiful
- There is ample storage- 2 shelves behind the center doors, and 3 drawers on each side (the lower drawers on each side are extra deep)
- The drawers and cabinets have a soft close feature (huge plus if you have kids!)
- The drawers take a little extra muscle to open, but in a good way! They don’t slide open super easily, which is great for preventing babies and younger toddlers from constantly eating the toothpaste straight out of the drawer!
- The vanity “feet” are beautiful and almost identical to the Sausalito vanity
- The vanity has undergone a multi finish process to prevent warping, cracking and to withstand bathroom humidity levels
- Comes with black hardware (although I replaced mine with these satin knobs)
- The caned paneling on the cabinet doors is not see-through like the Sausalito, which I actually kind of like because you can’t see what’s behind the cabinets! (And it’s less tempting for toddlers to stick things like pencils/headphone adapters/lego people into the tiny cane holes. Can you tell I have 3 boys??)
- No real cons for this one! The only thing I’ve noticed is the cane detail looks delicate, as if it could fray a bit over time… but then again, cane detail in general is thin and delicate. Time will tell!
Overall I’m super happy with this vanity and especially with the cost savings when comparing it to the expensive Pottery Barn option. It looks beautiful, the quality is great, and it passes the test for being a solid Pottery Barn Sausalito Vanity Dupe- yesss!

I am on the fence about the Sausilito vanity and came across your dupe find. I am wondering how the Annie Vanity is standing up to the traffic you have in your bathroom. I have read reviews that the cane does not hold up well. Can you confirm before I purchase the Annie Vanity? Thanks for your help.
Hope and Hedges says
Hi Debi! We’ve had the Annie Vanity for 5 months now and it gets A LOT of traffic (and I mean toddlers climbing it, etc) and I’ve noticed the slightest bit of chipping on the cane detail. Because it’s the cane detail and not the wood, I honestly think it would be easy to touch up with a similar paint color if it ever chipped more. But if you don’t have kids climbing with their feet pressed against the cane then you should be fine. Overall I’ve been VERY happy with the Annie Vanity, and guests constantly compliment how pretty it is. Hope that helps!

Could you please tell me how high the vanity is including backsplash. The specifications for the vanity state a height of 34.5 but I wasn’t sure if that included the backsplash. Thank you!
Hope and Hedges says
Hi! With the backsplash, mine reaches 38 inches!

Hi there! I enjoyed your page so much! Do you mind sharing what tile you used on the floor? It’s such a great combo of gray/beige! Thanks!
Hope and Hedges says
Hi! Thanks so much! Here is the link to the tile: https://www.tileshop.com/products/keystone-grey-porcelain-wall-and-floor-tile-12-x-24-in-681935 It’s the Keystone Grey Porcelain Tile- I’ve been super happy with it- it’s pretty, it’s durable, and it feels really nice under foot!
Melia says
Loved coming across this! How is everything holding up still? Thanks!
Hope and Hedges says
Thanks Melia! The vanity is still holding up great! There’s a bit of wear on the varnish on the cabinet doors, but it’s ONLY because I have a 3 year old that climbs up the vanity to reach the sink vs using her step stool (so you should be fine if you don’t have toddlers, ha!). (And the company was really helpful sending a little extra wood stain for touch ups). It’s super solid, and the drawers and cabinet doors are very sturdy- and it gets a LOT of use with so many kids. Good luck and thanks for reading!

Hi!!
I know this is unrelated to the vanity, but this bathroom has been my complete inspiration for our home that we are renovating! Would you mind sharing where you purchased the mirror from? Everything is beautiful!
Hope and Hedges says
Hi!! I’m so glad! The mirror was another “look-for-less” find (of a Studio McGee mirror I loved), from Home Depot! Here’s the link (mine is in “gold”): https://fave.co/3TeYmLr
Kelly says
Hi I love what you’ve done! I’m curious how it has held up for over a year now. I have 4 kiddos so it will get a lot of use and abuse. Do you still love it ?
Hope And Hedges says
Hi Kelly! Thanks so much! I still love it, however I think it all depends on if your kiddos are climbers or not! My little ones (even with a stepstool) tend to climb and press their feet against the 2 centered doors (which have the cane detail), and that specific part has a bit of wear now. I reached out to the company and they sent me a free wood stain that is the exact match of the vanity, but I haven’t had the time to do touch ups (and probably will wait until they’re a bit older). So mixed answer! Yes I love it, and still recommend it, especially if you love the look, but that ONE part of the vanity is prone to some stain-chipping if you have little climbers- hope that helps!
Cindy Janay says
I’m wondering if a poly would help seal the cane in?
Cindy Janay says
Do you have the reveal post yet that shows your shower tile and paint colors? Thank you!
Hope And Hedges says
Good question! I’m not quite sure due to material underneath the stain… but maybe!
Hope And Hedges says
Hi Cindy! Unfortunately, not yet! We had a massive tree hit the front of our house where the bathroom is and caused water damage and have to re-do part of the bathroom. But I do have a couple pictures of the shower tile and paint color (BM Chantilly Lace) in this post https://www.hopeandhedges.com/choosing-a-timeless-white-subway-tile-bathroom/
I’ll eventually choose a wallpaper for that bathroom 🙂 but Chantilly Lace is a great white interior paint color.
