After having 6 kids in 9 years, I can tell you one thing, I’ve served A LOT of meals in this house. And my absolute favorite divided plates for toddlers (and even the older kids) are the fantastic RePlay plates. Not only are they made from recycled material, they’re durable and come in super cute colors too. Before you decide which divided plates are best for your own kids, be sure to read through this mom-approved Re-Play plates review.

RePlay plates: Durable, Safe, and Non-Toxic Kid Plates
Before we jump in, I’ll note that we have had experience with the the popular 7″ RePlay divided plates, so that’s what we’ll be reviewing today.
When researching Re-Play divided plates for your little ones, some of the top questions you might ask are:
- What material are Re-Play plates made from?
- Are Re-Play plates safe?
- Are Re-Play plates non toxic?
- Are Re-Play plates durable?
- Are Re-Play plates microwave safe?
- Are Re-Play plates dishwasher safe?
- Are Re-Play plates made in the USA?
Re-Play plates are made from recycled HDPE and polypropylene, sourced mostly from recycled milk jugs!
Polypropylene is a type of plastic commonly used in various products, including water bottles, food containers, and textiles. Re-Play uses this recycled material specifically because it offers:
- Safety: It’s BPA-free, BPS-free, lead-free, PVC-free, melamine-free and phthalate-free, all of which are important considerations for products used with food, especially for children.
- Durability: Polypropylene is known for its strength and resistance to drops, scratches, and wear and tear, making it ideal for the rough and tumble of daily use. This material makes RePlay plates dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe (recommended in 20-second increments).
- Sustainability: By using recycled plastic, Re-Play plays a part in being environmentally-conscious. I love supporting companies that create non-toxic and eco-friendly kids products!
It’s also worth noting that Re-Play plates are made in the USA and are EU and FDA tested and approved, ensuring they meet strict safety standards for food contact. Food-safe plastic is so important if choosing plastic for mealtime for little ones!
Why You’ll Love RePlay Plates
Re-Play plates are a popular choice for families with young children, offering a combination of durability, safety, and functionality. Although we have added to our collection over time, we’ve had our original set for YEARS and it has held up great!
Beyond the basics of material and care, some other common questions you might have are:
- Do Re-Play plates stain?
- How deep are the divided sections on Re-Play plates?
- What foods or meals can a Re-Play plate hold?
- What colors do Re-Play plates come in?
One of my favorite features is that the plates do not stain. If you’ve ever had a toddler plate that has been stained by your go-to pasta sauce, it’s beyond frustrating because you feel like you can’t serve your kids anything that’s possible of staining. But these plates have seen A LOT of pasta sauce in their day, as well as some top-staining foods like frozen blueberries or yellow curry dishes, and they still look great! (And that’s with these non-toxic dish pods, not even the harsh chemical dish detergent.)
Another one of my favorite features is that the Re-Play divided plates have 3 divided sections, 2 small and 1 large, that are actually deep enough to hold meals that are normally served in a bowl. My kids will have miso soup and rice, oatmeal, or chicken noodle soup without an issue!
I really like how the 3 divided sections have the 1 larger compartment and 2 smaller ones, because more often than not, that’s how mealtime goes. For breakfast, we might use one small compartment for fruit, one small compartment for greek yogurt, and the larger compartment for pancakes or French toast or eggs and bacon. For lunch or dinnertime, we might use one small compartment for a tomato salad or side of vegetables, one small compartment for apple sauce or sliced fruit, and the larger compartment for pasta.
Some divided plates tend to be so shallow in depth where you can really only serve foods that are suitable for a flat plate, but the Re-Play plates really are suitable for any meal or dish.
Here are some ideas of meals using Re-Play plates (first, the big compartment, then the 2 small compartments!):
- Pancakes, strawberries, Greek yogurt and honey
- Eggs and sausage, toast (cut into strips), fruit salad
- Oatmeal, berries, granola
- Rice and black beans, chicken quesadilla, corn
- Miso soup, rice, edamame
- Chicken noodle soup, bread, apple slices
- Pasta with fresh mozzarella and marinara, cucumber and tomato salad, sliced peaches
What are some favorite Re-Play plate colors? (PLUS A MOM HACK!)
First of all, I absolutely love the huge selection of colors for the RePlay divided plates. From neutrals, to pastels, to pops of color, there are so many options!
(If you love sets that match, it’s easy to buy all one color, but if you don’t care about being matchy-matchy, a very helpful mom hack is to buy a set color for each kid! (Or one of the combination color sets). This way, every kid gets their designated “color” at mealtime, and it makes your job easier when you have to remember who gets what meal. For example, your 2 year old hates potatoes, so you remember not to serve those on the pretty pink plate. Or your 8 year old loves a double scoop of rice, so that goes on the blue plate. Once your color-coded plates are filled with food, it’s easier for your kids to help out and bring their own plates to the table.
- Ice Blue
- White (a 4 pack for a simplified set of white)
- Ice Pink (4 pack)
- Desert Sand (3-color palette with an option for 1 or 3 lids!)
